Vasudev, then 25, rode up to Chamundi Hill and sat on a rock on September 23, 1982. He had a spiritual experience while he was there. Vasudev handed over his business to a friend after six weeks of this experience and traveled extensively.
It was done in an attempt to gain an understanding of his mystical experience. Vasudev decided to teach yoga after nearly a year of meditation and travel to share his inner experience.
The following year, in 1983, Jaggi taught his first yoga class in Mysore to seven students. He also started teaching yoga classes in Karnataka and Hyderabad over time.
He traveled on his motorcycle for this purpose, subsisting on the produce of his rented poultry farm. On the last day of the class, he also donated the money collected from the yoga students to a local charity.
