Manchester United 0-3 Man City: Manchester Derby

Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola

Man Utd 0-3 Man City: Erling Haaland and Phil Foden score as Pep Guardiola’s side wins the Manchester derby in style.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scored his first two goals at Old Trafford as City defeated Manchester United 3-0 in Sunday’s Premier League derby.

Pep Guardiola‘s treble winners are third in the standings with 24 points after 10 games, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur. United, who suffered their first defeat in four games in all competitions, are eighth with 15 points.

United had lost six of the previous eight games against City, including a 2-1 FA Cup final defeat in City’s treble campaign last season, which matched United’s 1999 achievement.

“Amazing. A fantastic win and the game was incredible and the team, everything, Haaland explained.

“It is definitely one of the best wins,” added midfielder Bernardo Silva. “To win 3-0 away with this crowd, I think it is definitely one of the best performances.”

Haaland, who has 11 league goals this season, converted a penalty in the 26th minute after VAR determined Rasmus Hjlund had pulled down Rodri on a free kick.

The penalty was City’s first in 27 Premier League visits to Old Trafford, and the Norwegian striker calmly slotted it into the bottom-right corner.

City dominated shell-shocked United in the second half, and their bulldozer forward netted again shortly after halftime, when Bernardo Silva made an overlapping run and then dinked a pass to the back post that a rising Haaland headed home.

In the 80th minute, Phil Foden scored from close range after goalkeeper André Onana pushed away a Rodri shot that landed at the feet of Haaland for an easy cross to Foden. Many frustrated United fans left the stadium early as a result of the goal.

Hojlund had a great chance to make up for his costly foul with a first-half breakaway, but he was pushed off the ball. Éderson punched United midfielder Scott McTominay’s shot over the bar late in the first half.

City, on the other hand, had numerous near misses of their own, including a header by Haaland that Onana saved just before halftime.

Last season, City defeated Erik ten Hag’s visiting United side 6-3 at home but lost 2-1 at Old Trafford.
